Eight Reasons I Recommend WordPress

WordPress Logo

If the wording here seems somewhat different it is because this text was originally written for a yet-to-be-published “WordPress Consulting” page intended for clients. Instead, I thought the content deserved to be a blog entry.

I am accepting clients for WordPress-based projects and will have a page with some information online soon. I’ll link here when it’s done.

  1. Choose Write Your Own Adventure

WordPress can be used as a powerful Content Management System allowing you full control over the text, images, video and other content that appears on your site. Multiple authors, editors, drafts, autosaving, spell check, image captioning, image galleries, and much more is all built into WordPress so your site is ready for you to edit without any additional cost.

  2. Website Development: Now With Afterburners

Typical WordPress sites can be developed in just a few days, while more complicated custom WordPress jobs may take a few weeks. Compare this with the weeks and months long development times for custom built websites.

  3. Wheels Already Exist, Bring Your Own Paint

Instead of spending time and money developing complex security features, administrative sections, and interactive elements, we can focus on what’s most important to your website: content, design, & specific functionality. WordPress has been years in development and will outperform all but the most expensive custom solutions.

  4. The Web Changes. Be Evolutionary

The World Wide Web is constantly evolving — your website should too. WordPress has three built-in features that help you keep up with the latest trends in web technology:

    • Instant 42-second Upgrades

WordPress has the ability to be upgraded with one click via the internet. This allows the WordPress team to issue critical security updates, fix glitches, or expand functionality. Basically, the platform that runs your website will always be the most current.

    • Virtual Remodeling

Instead of hand-coding pages. your entire website your content will live in a database. This means that at any time with a click of a button your website can take on a completely different look while retaining the same content. This means that an outdated design can be replaced instantly with a more modern and refreshed look. The design of your website can always be in style

    • WordPress: Taking Over the World, One Plugin at a Time

Specific functionality can be added, subtracted, or modified at any time. Perhaps one year your website demands a calendar, but year two demands a to-do list instead. This functionality can be changed quickly and at low cost with minimal website downtime.

  5. Befriend Google (and Yahoo, too)

Ranking high in Google can be tricky — entire companies are devoted to search engine optimization (SEO) — but WordPress makes it easy to get your website search engine ready. All our sites are valid xHTML, semantically correct, and have SEO plugins installed; paired with search engine friendly text and effective keyword research your sites will rank well in Google.

  6. Out-of-the-box Web 2.0

“Web 2.0″ is not about a specific style or look, it’s about users connecting and sharing via the World Wide Web. WordPress has built-in commenting and linking features that make it an excellent first-step in creating a community around your website. In addition WordPress can be integrated with other social networking sites including Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook to foster community interest and participation in your brand.

  7. WordPress Wins the Popularity Contest

The WordPress community is massive. There are hundreds of thousands of people that use, maintain, and develop for WordPress. This ensures that if you need to move your website, there will be a hosting provider willing to help. If you need to have a custom plugin developed, there will be a PHP developer with experience. If you need to have something modified in your theme, you can find a designer. WordPress has been around for years and will continue to remain viable into the future.

  8. Enjoy Updating Your Website

Seriously. WordPress was designed, originally, to be the most user-friendly and aesthetic blogging platform on the market. In many ways, this is still the case. The WordPress folks have worked hard (e.g. fancy-pants things like laser eye tracking) to make their user interface fun and intuitive. Suddenly, spending time adding content to your website becomes fun.

What are your reasons for reccomending WordPress?
